The Creature from the Black Lagoon remake has found its writer, with Deadline reporting that a writer has been tapped to write the upcoming reboot of the classic Universal monster movie.
Who is The Creature From the Black Lagoon reboot’s writer?
Deadline is reporting that Sean Tretta will write the upcoming reboot. Tretta is best known for his work on the Syfy series 12 Monkeys, as well as having written for FX’s Mayans MC, a spin-off of the original series Sons of Anarchy.
According to Deadline’s report, The Creature From the Black Lagoon’s script will be based off of a treatment from James Wan, Rafael Jordan, and Bryan Coyne. Wan is also in talks to direct the project, which is said to be “a grounded modernized retelling that leans into visceral horror whilst paying respect to the original classic.”
Originally released in 1954, Creature from the Black Lagoon was directed by Jack Arnold and starred Richard Carlson, Julie Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, Nestor Paiva, Whit Bissell, Ben Chapman, and Ricou Browning. The film follows a group of scientists uncovering the titular creature.
A description of the 1954 film reads, “Remnants of a mysterious animal have come to light in a remote jungle, and a group of scientists intends to determine if the find is an anomaly or evidence of an undiscovered beast. To accomplish their goal, the scientists must brave the most perilous pieces of land South America has to offer. But the terrain is nothing compared to the danger posed by an otherworldly being that endangers their work and their lives.”
Wan is known for directing 2004’s Saw, 2007’s Dead Silence, 2010’s Insidious, 2013’s The Conjuring, 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2, 2015’s Furious 7, 2016’s The Conjuring 2, 2018’s Aquaman, 2021’s Malignant, and 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
