Callum Turner (Masters of the Air) and Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six) have signed on to join the Rosebush Pruning cast for the upcoming English remake of Marco Bellocchio’s classic 1965 Italian dark comedy Fists in the Pocket. Production is currently underway in Spain.
In addition, Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers), Lukas Gage (Smile 2), Tracy Letts (Lady Bird), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl) have also been tapped to star in the project. They will be joining previously announced cast member Elle Fanning, who will next be seen in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic movie A Complete Unknown.
Kristen Stewart & Josh O’Connor exit Rosebush Pruning cast
According to Variety, Turner and Keough will be playing the lead characters in the Rosebush Pruning movie. They will be replacing Oscar nominee Kristen Stewart and Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor, who exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Stewart is currently busy working on her feature-length directorial debut film The Chronology of Water, while O’Connor will next be seen in Netflix’s Knives Out threequel, Wake Up Dead Man, with Glenn Close and Andrew Scott.
“I’m so excited to bring this audacious and delicious script to life, which challenges our notions of the traditional family and the patriarchy, with this brilliant ensemble of actors who I have long admired,” Aïnouz said in a statement.
Rosebush Pruning is being directed by Karim Aïnouz from a screenplay written by Efthimis Filippou. The film is produced by Viola Fügen, Michael Weber, Simone Gattoni, Annamaria Morelli, Andreas Wentz, Juan Cano, and Rachel Dargavel. The original 1965 movie is described as a significant part of Italian cinema which tells a dark satire of family and social values. Starring Lou Castel, the film is centered around a young epileptic man who is planning to murder his dysfunctional family.
