Speaking with Empire Magazine, Shyamalan previously said that he pitched Trap as The Silence of the Lambs if it was set at a Taylor Swift concert. He also spoke about how he was inspired by a real-life sting operation — Operation Flagship, which occurred at the Washington Convention Center in December 1985 — when making the movie.
“The cops were literally cheerleaders and mascots,” Shyamalan said of the 1985 event. “These guys were dancing as they came in. And they were all caught. It was so twisted and funny.”
