Mickey7 author Edward Ashton has shared his reaction to the trailer for Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17.
The first full trailer for Mickey 17 was released on the evening of Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Starring Robert Pattinson and Naomi Ackie, the movie will be released in United States theaters this coming January.
What did Edward Ashton say about the Mickey 17 trailer?
The sci-fi movie is based on Ashton’s novel, which was published in 2022. On X, Ashton shared the trailer and expressed his excitement for the upcoming adaptation.
“Many folks have asked if I’m nervous about what Director Bong will do with my baby,” Ashton wrote. “I always said no. This shows you why. I knew from our first conversation that Bong got Mickey7. It’s dark and deep and funny and I can’t express how jazzed I am right now.”
When asked if he had seen the whole film yet, Ashton said, “Nope. Read the script, tho. It’s a banger.”
“From the Academy Award-winning writer/director of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho, comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, Mickey 17,” the official synopsis reads. “The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.”
Along with Pattinson and Ackie, the movie stars Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. Bong Joon-ho — who, in addition to Parasite, previously made 2003’s Memories of Murder, 2006’s The Host, 2013’s Snowpiercer, and more — wrote the script and produced the movie alongside Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dooho Choi. Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins serve as executive producers.
Mickey 17 will be released in United States theaters on January 31, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures. Mickey7, meanwhile, is currently available to purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
