The star cast for Patrick Hughes’ next Netflix feature, War Machine, has been revealed. Veteran actor Dennis Quaid and Kaleidoscope’s Jai Courtney have joined the movie alongside Stephan James and Esai Morales.
Netflix’s War Machine adds Dennis Quaid and three other cast members
The cast assembled for Netflix’s sci-fi action movie War Machine is quite impressive. Quaid, Courtney, James, and Morales will star in it besides Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, Mystery Road’s Blake Richardson, The Finest Hours’ Keiynan Lonsdale, and The Dirt’s Daniel Webber, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Before this, Hughes worked on another Netflix film, The Man From Toronto, which came out in 2022.
Hughes penned the screenplay with his long-term collaborator James Beaufort. The movie reportedly takes place within the span of the last 24 hours of the world’s toughest selection process and follows a team of U.S. Army Rangers as they take on an unprecedented threat.
Ritchson apparently will essay the role of the lead Ranger aspirant, with Courtney, James, Lonsdale, Webber, and Richardson rounding up the team. Quaid and Morales will depict the commanding officers of the squad.
The movie was originally in development at Lionsgate before Netflix purchased the rights. The production is slated to begin this week in Australia. Aside from writing and directing, Hughes is also producing it through his Huge Film banner.
Quaid has been active in the industry since the ’70s and has appeared in films like Breaking Away (1979), The Parent Trap (1998), Frequency (2000), The Rookie (2002), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), and In Good Company (2004). Quaid portrays the eponymous former U.S. President in his most recent feature, Reagan.
Besides Kaleidoscope, Jai Courtney has also appeared in The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015), Terminator Genisys (2015), and several DCEU projects. Stephan James is known for Selma (2014), Race (2016), and The Piano Lesson (2024). Esai Morales has worked in films such as Bad Boys (1983) and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023).
Netflix hasn’t yet disclosed the release date of War Machine.
