Beetlejuice 2’s Box Office Is 2024’s 3rd Biggest Domestic Opening

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice debuted in US theaters on Friday, September 6, two days after it came out internationally, and has quickly established itself at the top of the global box office. The movie had the third domestic biggest box-office opening of 2024 after Deadpool & Wolverine ($211.4 million) and Inside Out 2 ($154.2 million). It also had the second-biggest September release of all time, coming right behind the 2017 supernatural horror film It ($123.4 million).

Beetlejuice 2 starts with a strong $110 million box office opening

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made an impressive $110 million in the US and Canada in its opening weekend. Internationally, the movie made an additional $35.4 million, taking the sequel’s global tally to $145.4 million. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was produced on a $100 million budget. Notably, the first movie was developed with a budget of $15 million and made $75.1 million during its run at the global box office.

The movie’s performance in its debut is on par with the box-office predictions made by outlets such as Deadline. Beyond the US and Canada, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s performance was equally stellar. It topped box-office lists in 40 overseas markets, including Mexico, Australia, and the UK. It reportedly ranked No. 1 in all countries in Latin America and is yet to come out in important markets such as France, Japan, and Germany.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had its global premiere at this year’s Venice International Film Festival on August 28. It has garnered a 76% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 252 reviews and a Generally Favorable score of 62 on Metacritic based on 59 reviews.

Tim Burton, who made the original film, helmed the sequel as well. The plot takes place 36 years after the events of Beetlejuice and follows the Deetz family as they return to Winter River, Connecticut. When Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, draws the attention of a malevolent spirit, the former reaches out to the titular trickster. The cast includes Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse (aka Beetlejuice), Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Justin Theroux as Rory, and Monica Bellucci as Delores LaVerge.
