What did Tom Hiddleston and Mike Flanagan say about The Life of Chuck?

Flanagan said that King was skeptical at first if The Life of Chuck could be adapted into a film.

“His initial responses to me were a little like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah. If you think that’s a movie…,’” Flanagan recalled. “He did say several times that he thought it would be a challenge to get it supported through traditional means.”

King, having now seen the movie, describes Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck as “a happiness machine.”

King’s short story is told in reverse chronological order. It takes place during three pivotal moments in the life of an accountant, played by Hiddleston. At the same time, various natural disasters are occurring and posters congratulating Chuck on his retirement are seen everywhere.

The cast of the movie also includes Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Matthew Lillard, Mia Sara, Harvey Guillén, Kate Siegel, Carl Lumbly, Rahul Kohli, and more.

Hiddleston and Flanagan confirmed that the middle of The Life of Chuck will feature an elaborate dance number performed by Hiddleston.

“I had to learn in six weeks the full regime of any dance training,” Hiddleston said. “We did jazz, swing, salsa, cha-cha, the Charleston, bossa nova, polka, quickstep, samba. We were trying to tip our hat to anything that might have influenced Chuck. It might’ve had a bit of Gene Kelly or Fred and Ginger. Certainly moonwalking—Stephen King is very specific about the moonwalk.”
