Frozen: Anya Taylor-Joy Says Playing Elsa Is Her Dream Live-Action Role

The Frozen franchise has successfully etched its legacy as one of the most iconic animated film series of its generation. Aside from garnering glaring reviews from audiences and critics alike, the franchise’s two movies have also raked in billions of dollars at the worldwide box office. At the time of writing, Frozen and Frozen 2 are ranked fourth and second, respectively, among the highest-grossing animated movies of all time. As such, the idea of reimagining its narrative for a live-action remake has attracted much attention without any confirmation. In a recent discussion, Anya Taylor-Joy addressed this thought and expressed her desire to portray Elsa if a live-action Frozen project is ever greenlit.

Anya Taylor-Joy wants to play Elsa in Disney’s live-action Frozen musical

The Queen’s Gambit star stated that playing the snow queen in real life would be an exciting experience.

Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that Frozen’s Elsa would be her go-to role when it comes to musical or Disney-related projects. The 28-year-old actress also explained the reason behind her preference while talking with Vogue Hong Kong.

“I really want to do a musical because I’m a little too obsessed with my current job. I love the challenge of completing impossible tasks. I think that’s incredibly motivating for me,” she said. “So the idea of being able to sing, dance, and act at the same time is really exciting to me,” Taylor-Joy added. (via Deadline)

The Miami-born artist also touched down on the impact that landing such a role would have on her siblings’ children. Anya Taylor-Joy clarified that she would love for her nieces and nephews to be able to say that their aunt is Elsa.

“I think Frozen is going to be great. Shooting ice cubes out of your hands can be a lot of fun,” Taylor-Joy exclaimed. “And, you’ll be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party. All my siblings have kids now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My aunt is Elsa.’ That would be great!” she added.

At the moment, Disney has yet to announce any official plans for a live-action remake of Frozen. The entertainment giants are currently working on further animated sequels in the franchise. Frozen 3 is currently slated to release in theaters in 2027.
