A24 to Distribute Daniel Craig & Luca Guadagnino’s Queer Movie

Queer, Daniel Craig’s upcoming collaboration with filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, has finally found a distributor in the US. The movie draws inspiration from a William S. Burroughs novel of the same name and will be made available for viewing in the US by A24. Queer takes place in 1950s Mexico City and follows the lonely journey of an American expat named William Lee. His life changes significantly when a young student called Eugene Allerton announces his arrival in town.

Here’s what Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino said about this new development.

A24 acquires rights to Queer starring Daniel Craig

The American entertainment company has officially acquired the distribution rights to the historical romantic drama. The news was followed by a joint congratulatory message by Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino, who expressed their excitement over the partnership of Queer with A24.

As per Variety, both Craig and Guadagnino conveyed that they have found the best partner for distributing their movie. “Queer is a labor of love, and we could not be more excited that our film has found a home with a studio as daring, vital, and trail-blazing as A24,” they said. “It is our deep honor to finally bring Burroughs’ legendary novel to life on screen for the first time, and we feel immense gratitude and excitement to be able to present it alongside our treasured collaborators. We could not ask for better partners on this journey.”

The deal between the team behind Daniel Craig’s Queer and A24 was facilitated by CAA Media Finance. The project has been produced by a hoard of collaborating teams, including Fremantle. Andrea Scrosati, who serves as the Group COO for Fremantle, also reacted to the update with an excited demeanor.

“We are thrilled that Queer, a true milestone in filmmaking and storytelling, will get its U.S. release from A24,” Scrosati said. “A24 is the perfect partner for Luca Guadagnino’s beautiful and tender film, and we are all looking forward to working with their brilliant team again.”

Queer is scheduled to hit the theatres this year. However, it will primarily make its worldwide debut at the 81st Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2024. Alongside Daniel Craig, the film also features Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, and others in pivotal roles.
