Gwyneth Paltrow Cast in Timothée Chalamet & Josh Safdie Ping Pong Movie Marty Supreme

Gwyneth Paltrow has joined the cast of Marty Supreme.

Marty Supreme is a forthcoming A24 movie that is about ping pong. Josh Safdie is directing the film, while Timothée Chalamet has been cast in a leading role.

Per Deadline, Paltrow has now been tapped to play an undisclosed character in the film.

This marks Paltrow’s first substantial film role since she starred as Pepper Potts in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame; although, she did have a minor voice role as herself in 2022’s She Sad.

Along with playing Pepper in other MCU projects, Paltrow is known for starring in 1991’s Hook, 1995’s Seven, 1996’s Emma, 1998’s Shakespeare in Love, 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, 2001’s The Royal Tenenbaums, 2011’s Contagion, and more.

On television, Paltrow has appeared in series such as Glee, The Politician, and other titles.

What else do we know about Marty Supreme?

Plot details for Marty Supreme are being kept largely under wraps at this time.

The film was believed to be at least partially inspired by the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman, who lived from 1930 to 2012. A press release announcing Paltrow’s casting, however, confirms that Marty Supreme is not a biopic and is rather a “fictionalized original film.”

Safdie co-wrote the script for the movie with Ronald Bronstein. He and Bronstein also serve as a producer alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24.

Safdie is known for directing 2017’s Good Time and 2019’s Uncut Gems with his brother, Benny Safdie. The Safdie Brothers are no longer directing movies together, as Benny is now working on 2025’s The Smashing Machine starring Dwayne Johnson while Josh is also working on another movie with Adam Sandler that will be about baseball card collecting.

A release date for Marty Supreme has not yet been announced by A24.
