Recently, a picture of Moana, next to the potential villain on Moana 2, Matangi has stirred a storm across the internet. Disney Studios is all set to grace fans with the much-awaited sequel of Moana this year. Among all the chatter around Moana 2, some eagle-eyed fans have started stumbling upon details about who the protagonist is going up against in her next adventure.
Here are certain details about Matangi and what impact the villain could have in the sequel of Moana.
Moana 2 art highlights the main villain
Fans were surprised recently, after a promo art provided a glimpse of the next big villain in Moana 2.
The promo art was shared in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by user Almanaque Disney. In the artwork, fans can notice Moana, the main protagonist of the Disney movie, standing next to Matangi. The latter can be seen wearing a dress of dark shade with some orange hues incorporated in it.
Meanwhile, fans can also notice Moana 2’s villain Matangi sporting a long cape, complimenting her look. According to a report by The Direct, the artwork also shows a bat. This can likely be a reference to a frame from Moana’s teaser trailer. In it, the demi-god Maui is seen fighting an army of bats, while Matangi can be heard in the background.
Additionally, in the same X post, Almanaque Disney wrote, ”ANOTHER IMAGE OF THEM! Moana and the villain Matangi in a new promotional image for ‘Moana 2’, found on a licensed product for the film. Disney Animation’s new animation premieres in theaters on November 28th.”
Even though the Moana 2 teaser trailer does not reveal much about Matangi, it was earlier announced that Awhimai Fraser is voicing the villain. Earlier, Fraser has done the Māori language dubs for Elsa in Frozen and Dolores in Encanto. In Moana 2, the protagonist receives a call from her ancestors and embarks on a journey, accompanied by Maui.
