Quentin Tarantino Explains Why He Refuses to See Toy Story 4

A trilogy expanding into more movies is a common occurrence. Pixar may not have asked for a fourth Toy Story movie, but the team had an idea for it they couldn’t ignore. While Quentin Tarantino is a big fan of the Pixar series, he gives a clear explanation of why he refuses to see Toy Story 4.

Toy Story had a great wrap-up after three movies. Instead of joining Andy at college, Woody chooses to stay with his toy pals and their new owner, Bonnie. Because Toy Story 3 tied everything so nicely, Quentin Tarantino told the comedy podcast Club Random with Bill Maher (via Deadline) why he has no intentions of watching Toy Story 4.

“In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent,” said the Pulp Fiction director. “It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.”

Quentin Tarantino’s answer to what the perfect trilogy would be is Sergio Leone‘s Dollars trilogy starring Clint Eastwood. The Reservoir Dogs director felt that the Spaghetti Western trilogy owes its success to having “one director vision.”

What do we know about Toy Story 5?

So far, Disney has reached out to Tim Allen and Tom Hanks to reprise their iconic toy roles. Official casting news hasn’t been confirmed yet. However, we know that Buzz and Woody will come back along with Jessie, Rex, Forky, and Hamm. Its writer, Andrew Stanton, will return for Toy Story 5 in a new role for the series as director.

Toy Story 4 concluded with Buzz and Woody parting ways. Buzz and his toy pals stay with Bonnie, while Woody and Bo Peep are on their own to help the other toys find homes. As revealed at the D23 Expo, Toy Story 5 will revolve around the toys facing a new enemy- technology. Concept art showed the toys looking sadly at their owner fully absorbed in their tablet. With technology constantly advancing, this new animated movie would be giving this generation’s fans a plot they can relate to.

Since Quentin Tarantino doesn’t plan to watch Toy Story 4, it’s safe to say the fifth movie isn’t on his watchlist either. But, the box office numbers of each movie tend to surpass the other with rave review after rave review. I have a feeling the upcoming fifth movie will achieve the same results in June 2026.
