Following its theatrical release on June 7 of this year, The Watchers will soon arrive on Max for its streaming debut. Starring Dakota Fanning, the supernatural horror film serves as Ishana Night Shyamalan’s feature-length directorial debut.
Produced by M. Night Shyamalan (the filmmaker behind horror hits like The Sixth Sense, Split, The Village, The Visit, and more), The Watchers follows a 28-year-old artist (played by Fanning) as she becomes trapped in a reclusive forest along with three strangers who are stalked by terrifying creatures called “the watchers.” It is based on the novel of the same name by A. M. Shine, published in 2021.
When is The Watchers Max release date?
Hailing from Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema, The Watchers will make its global streaming debut on Max on Friday, August 30. In addition to Fanning as Mina/Lucy, The Watchers also stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) as Ciara, Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out) as Daniel, Olwen Fouere (The Northman) as Madeline, and John Lynch (The Secret Garden) as Kilmartin.
“This forest isn’t charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its tree line. Mina’s is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker,” the synopsis reads. “As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the Watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn’t reach the bunker in time. Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the Watchers, and why are they keeping the humans imprisoned, keen to watch their every move.”
The Watchers is also available on digital, with a 4K and Blu-ray release set for later this month. The film’s additional producers include Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad, with Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer serving as executive producers.
