Paul Schrader Details Next 2 Movies, 1 Is Similar to First Reformed

Paul Schrader has recently opened up about his next two movies, one of which is set to begin production this year and another that he’s currently developing.

What did Paul Schrader say about his next movies?

Speaking to Screen Daily recently, Schrader gave a brief tease about a new feature film he was working on, titled The Basics of Philosophy. Schrader wrote an outline for the project and is looking to write the script within the next three months, and describes the project as in the style of his recent movies like First Reformed.

According to Schrader, the movie will be about “an intellectual university philosophy professor,” although nothing else is known about the project as of now.

Schrader also gave a brief update about his next movie, titled Non Compo Mentis. That movie has already begun casting, and Schrader says that the hope is to begin filming the project in November after some rewrites.

“I’ve got to do a very quick rewrite on [Compos],” said the filmmaker. “I’m hoping before November to write the new one and have another bullet in the gun ready to go.”

Non Compo Mentis will film in New York, and Schrader has described the project as following “two brothers, their demented mother, a younger girl they both fall in love with, and their wives.” Nothing else is known about the project, however, as Schrader is keeping things under wraps.

Schrader is a legend in the world of Hollywood, having written the screenplay for 1976’s Taxi Driver and co-writing other Martin Scorsese projects, including Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Bringing Out the Dead. Recently, Schrader has written and directed several critically acclaimed projects, including 2017’s First Reformed.
