Sentimental Value has tapped some of Hollywood’s biggest names to star in Joachim Trier‘s upcoming film, set to join previously announced cast member Renate Reinsve.
Sentimental Value marks Trier’s next project, following 2021’s romantic comedy-drama The Worst Person in the World. The critically acclaimed Academy Award-nominated feature also starred Reinsve in the leading role, collaborating once again with Trier for Sentimental Value.
Production on Sentimental Value has already commenced in Oslo.
Who stars in Sentimental Value?
According to Deadline, Reinsve — who most recently starred in A24’s A Different Man — will be joined by Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. Skarsgård is best known for his roles in Breaking the Waves, Insomnia, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Good Will Hunting, Andor, Dune, Chernobyl, and more.
Fanning, who has been in the spotlight since her early years, has starred in a number of acclaimed movies and television shows, including Super 8, Phoebe in Wonderland, Mary Shelley, The Beguiled, The Neon Demon, A Rainy Day in New York, 20th Century Women, and The Great, among others. Meanwhile, Lilleaas is a rising actress who starred in Women In Oversized Men’s Shirts, Young & Promising, and Netflix’s A Beautiful Life.
Per the outlet’s description, Sentimental Value — billed as “an intimate, poignant and often funny exploration of family, memories, and the reconciliatory power of art” — will center on stage actress Nora (Reinsve) and her sister Agnes (Lilleaas), as their father Gustave (Skarsgård) “steps back into their lives after a long absence. Once a renowned film director, Gustav looks to make his comeback and make amends with Nora by offering her the lead role in his next film. But Nora wants nothing to do with her father or his film.”
Fanning is set to play a still-unnamed American movie star. The film is produced by Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar, with Nathanael Karmitz, Juliette Schrameck, Janine Jackowski, Jonas Dornbach, Sisse Graum Jørgensen, and Lizette Jonjic as co-producers.
