Riverdale alum Camila Mendes has been tapped to star as Teela in the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of Masters of the Universe, joining Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man.
The actress is set to play Teela, a warrior who has been enlisted to help protect the royal family, most especially Prince Adam of Eternia (also known as He-Man). The announcement comes a few weeks after it was announced that Mendes will be starring in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot alongside Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.
What is Masters of the Universe about?
Nothing much has been revealed about what the upcoming feature will entail, but it was announced that the film will be hitting cinemas on June 5, 2026. The film, which hails from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, is based on the iconic Mattel franchise and will center on Prince Adam of Eternia, who has acquired superhuman abilities.
The toy line was first introduced to the world back in the ‘80s and has since become one of Mattel’s staples. Apart from the upcoming movie adaptation, the franchise has also received different iterations over the past decades, including the 1987 live-action film, the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and more.
Travis Knight is directing the live-action movie from a screenplay by Chris Butler. The film is being produced by Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.
Though best known for her stint as Veronica Lodge in all seven seasons of The CW’s teen drama Riverdale, Mendes has also dabbled on the big screen. Her movie credits include The New Romantic, The Perfect Date, Coyote Lake, Palm Springs, Dangerous Lies, Do Revenge, Upgraded, and Música.
Other stars joining Mendes and Galitzine have yet to be announced.
