Tommy Wirkola’s shark movie starring Phoebe Dynevor has an official title and release date.
Sony Pictures announced that its previously untitled shark movie is now Beneath the Storm. The thriller swims into theaters on August 1, 2025.
What to Expect in Tommy Wirkola’s Shark Movie?
Originally announced in May, Beneath the Storm’s plot details are currently under wraps. However, it will involve sharks. The film began shooting in Melbourne in July.
Besides Dynevor, Beneath the Storm’s cast includes Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou. The shark thriller hails from Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, who will produce via their HyperObject Industries.
Bowing opposite Sony’s Beneath the Storm on August 1 is The Bad Guys 2, the sequel to 2022’s The Bad Guys from Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation.
Wirkola is best known for helming Violet Night, a Christmas action movie starring David Harbour as Santa Claus. The film grossed over $76 million on a $20 million budget. A sequel to Violent Night is in development.
Wirkola’s other directorial credits include The Trip, What Happened to Monday, and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Wirkola’s adult animated comedy, Spermageddon, is scheduled for a January 2025 release in Norway.
Dynevor starred as Daphne Bridgerton on Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton. In 2023, Dynevor headlined Fair Play alongside Alden Ehrenreich. Premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, Fair Play was acquired by Netflix for $20 million. The erotic thriller arrived on the streamer on September 29, 2023.
Dynevor’s upcoming projects include Inheritance, Neil Burger’s spy film starring Rhys Ifans, and Anniversary, Jan Komasa’s thriller with Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Mckenna Grace, and Dylan O’Brien.
