Dwayne Johnson Announces Monster Jam Disney Movie Is in the Works

Dwayne Johnson has announced that a live-action Monster Jam movie is in the works.

At D23 on Friday, August 9, 2024, Johnson and Disney’s Alan Bergman announced a Monster Jam movie is now in development. The movie will lean “into the popularity of monster jam truck rallies and celebrating the biggest motorsport event in the world.”

Johnson will produce the film via his Seven Bucks Production banner.

What else do we know about the Disney Monster Jam movie?

“We got an opportunity here that we could create something that is immersive and cool and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families all around the world, from the POV of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric and crazy drivers,” Johnson said, via Variety. “Ladies and gentlemen, Monster Jam is gonna be a heck of a ride.”

Johnson also said, “I’m so excited to break the news to you guys. As you guys know, I’m a pickup truck man. That’s all I drive. I drove my pickup truck here. It’s out back. You guys know that, and I love motorsports, love monster trucks.”

Further plot details remain under wraps at this time. No release date has been set and it’s not yet clear if the movie will play theatrically or debut on Disney+.

Johnson has worked with Disney on a number of projects, as he’s starred in movies such as 2007’s The Game Plan, 2009’s Race to Witch Mountain, and 2021’s Jungle Cruise. He also voiced Maui in 2016’s Moana and will soon voice the character again in the upcoming sequel, Moana 2, which will be released in theaters in November 2024.

Additionally, Johnson will play Maui in a live-action version of Moana that is being directed by Thomas Kail. The movie will be released on July 10, 2026.
