No, Donald Glover’s Lando Star Wars Project Wasn’t Canceled

Confusion has surfaced online surrounding Donald Glover’s upcoming Lando movie, which was originally announced to be a Disney+ series before being retooled into a film last year.

The confusion stems from some poor aggregating of a new interview with Simien talking about the scrapped series. However, Simien hasn’t been involved in the upcoming Lando project for well over a year at this point and was simply talking about the iteration that was already known to not be moving forward.

“It was pretty developed,” Simien told Collider of the project. “There was a Bible. There was concept art. There were scripts. But it just wasn’t meant to be.”

However, again, this isn’t anything new. It was revealed in June 2023 that Simien was off the Lando series, with Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, taking over creative duties and writing the project. It was then announced in September 2023 that it would be a movie rather than a series.

Glover gave an update on Lando earlier this year, saying that he was glad to be able to have control over the project and that it allows for “the vision to be singular.” As a result, Glover knows that Lando will be good.

The actor previously played the role of Lando Calrissian in the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story.
