The zom-rom-com classic will be exclusively at Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres screens from August 29, 2024, to September 5, 2024 for US audiences. Focus Features made the announcement.
UK and Eire audiences will have to wait a little longer for Universal Pictures International to rerelease Shaun of the Dead. It will be available there from September 27, 2024, in Dolby Cinema and Dolby Atmos.
An official 20th anniversary poster was also released, which you can view below.
”The beloved zombie movie will be fully remastered with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for the first time ever, promising audiences the chance to experience Shaun of the Dead like never before.” reads the press statement. ”Dolby Cinema allows you to see the subtle details and ultra-vivid colors of Dolby Vision™ and hear the immersive sound of Dolby Atmos™. Dolby Cinema is specially designed to elevate every type of movie experience – and Shaun of the Dead is no exception.”
Director Edgar Wright also commented on the announcement.
“Twenty years ago, the worldwide release of ‘Shaun of the Dead‘ changed my life forever. Its reception since then has continued to be incredible, largely due to the passionate fans who have championed it with cricket bats aloft. Now, as we celebrate its bloody 20th anniversary with a brand-new Dolby Atmos and Vision remastered version, I’m beyond excited for everyone to experience it once again on the big screen—the way it was always meant to be seen: large, loud, and with quite a lot of red on it.”
What is Shaun of the Dead about?
Shaun of the Dead marked Edgar Wright’s big-screen directorial debut. Wright had previously made his name with the cult TV comedy Spaced. The film stars Simon Pegg as Shaun, an aimless man who lives a largely uneventful life. His humdrum routine is first rocked by his girlfriend dumping him, but later, by the dead returning to life. Determined to redeem himself, Shaun and his feckless slacker best friend Ed (Nick Frost) depart the comfort of their flat to save the people Shaun cares about most: his ex and his mother.
It launched Wright and Pegg’s careers to new heights, and they would again team up (with Nick Frost) for Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Wright would go on to direct Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Baby Driver, and Last Night in Soho. Pegg ended up as an established member of the Mission: Impossible team and, to date, has starred alongside Tom Cruise in five of the franchise entries so far, with another on the way.
