Focus Features has set a release date for Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag.
Black Bag is a new spy thriller movie directed by Soderbergh that stars Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender. The script for the film was written by David Koepp, who co-wrote 1993’s Jurassic Park with Michael Crichton.
When is Black Bag’s release date?
Black Bag will be released in United States theaters on March 14, 2025, from Focus Features. Universal Pictures International is handling international distribution.
Along with Blanchett (Tár, Borderlands) and Fassbender (The Killer, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Black Bag stars Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Marisa Abela (Back to Black), Naomie Harris (Skyfall, Rampage), Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!), and Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga).
The film is produced by Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs.
Plot details for Black Bag remain under wraps at this time. Filming began in London in May 2024.
Soderbergh is known for making 1989’s Sex, Lies, and Videotape, 1991’s Kafka, 1998’s Out of Sight, 2000’s Erin Brockovich, 2000’s Traffic, 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven, 2002’s Solaris, 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve, 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen, 2009’s The Informant!, 2011’s Contagion, 2012’s Magic Mike, 2013’s Side Effects, 2017’s Logan Lucky, 2018’s Unsane, 2019’s High Flying Bird, 2020’s Let Them All Talk, 2021’s No Sudden Move, 2022’s Kimi, and, most recently, 2023’s Magic Mike’s Last Dance.
In addition to Black Bag, Soderbergh has another movie coming out in the near future, Presence, which was acquired by Neon after it premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Starring Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, and Chris Sullivan, Presence is about a family who moves into a new house only to discover that they’re not alone. The script for Presence was also written by Koepp.
