The Memoir of a Snail US release date has been set for the award-winning animated feature written, produced, and directed by Academy Award winner Adam Elliot (Mary and Max).
The movie, which is said to have taken almost a decade to create, follows lonely misfit Grace Puddle (voiced by Succession actress Sarah Snook) and her fascination with ornamental snails and romance novels, as well as her unlikely friendship with an elderly eccentric woman named Pinky.
When is the Memoir of a Snail US release date?
IFC Films has announced that the animated adult drama will be heading stateside for a limited release on October 25 all the way through November. The film serves as Elliot’s second stop-motion film, following 2009’s Mary and Max and the Oscar-winning 2004 short Harvey Krumpet.
Memoir of a Snail has previously won the top Cristal prize for best feature at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Aside from its compelling premise, the film also features an ensemble voice cast of Snook, Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) as Gilbert, Jacki Weaver (Clipped) as Pinky, Eric Bana (The Time Traveler’s Wife) as James the Magistrate, Magda Szubanski (Babe: Pig in the City) as Ruth, Dominique Pinon (Amélie) as Percy, and more.
The official plot synopsis for Memoir of a Snail reads: “Grace Pudel is a lonely misfit with an affinity for collecting ornamental snails and an intense love for books. At a young age, when Grace is separated from her fire-breathing twin brother Gilbert, she falls into a spiral of anxiety and angst. Despite a continued series of hardships, inspiration and hope emerge when she strikes up an enduring friendship with an elderly eccentric woman named Pinky, who is full of grit and lust for life.”
Memoir of a Snail hits US theaters on October 25.
