Cailee Spaeny Teases Knives Out 3, Praises ‘Old-School’ Director Rian Johnson

Knives Out 3 is now in production. The third film from Rian Johnson’s murder mystery franchise is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. One of the film’s stars is Cailee Spaeny, who will headline Alien: Romulus in August.

In an interview with Total Film, Spaeny explained why her excitement for Knives Out 3 stems from working with Johnson, a unique filmmaker with an “old-school” approach.

“Rian is a very rare breed. You just don’t get filmmakers like him anymore,” Spaeny explained. “The intelligence… the equal parts intelligence, and saying something, and also pure entertainment, and a director who really feels old-school in the way they speak the language of a director. Everything in him, he’s just made to do this.”

Like its predecessors, Knives Out 3 features a star-powered ensemble led by Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc. Working with an A-list cast can be intimidating, but Spaeny is up for the challenge.

“We’re already in prep, and it’s all happening. And I just went over there today. Everyone seems in good spirits,” Spaeny said. “I haven’t met the rest of the cast, but I’m terrified and also ecstatic to work with this group of people because it’s top-notch. It’s the crème de la crème of acting. So I feel very honored to be part of it, and I hope that I do a good job!”

What to Expect in Knives Out 3?

The plot details for Knives Out 3 are under wraps. However, Blanc must solve his “most dangerous case yet” in the film.

Knives Out 3 also stars Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

Johnson writes and directs Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Producers include Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Katie McNeill.

Knives Out 3 will stream globally on Netflix in 2025.
