Channing Tatum is opening up about his psychopathic role in Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice.
Tatum is known for starring in a number of comedy features and romantic comedies, including She’s the Man, the two Jump Street movies, and the Magic Mike film series, among others. Beyond comedy, the actor has also explored different genres throughout his acting career, such as romance, drama, action thrillers, and science fiction. However, Blink Twice marks the actor’s first time exploring a darker, villainous role.
Previously titled Pussy Island, the upcoming thriller — judging solely on the trailer and behind-the-scenes images — brings quite a different tone as compared to Tatum’s other roles. In an interview with Total Film, the actor admitted that he had never played anyone like Slater King.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever played anyone [like this]. Every character I play, I usually have some sort of love for or a connection to,” said Tatum. “I don’t think I’ll ever tell anybody what I had to create inside my head to play this person. He’s a psychopath.”
What is Blink Twice about?
“When tech billionaire Slater King meets cocktail waitress Frida at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive,” the synopsis reads.
Kravitz also co-wrote the script for Blink Twice with E.T. Feigenbaum. The film stars Naomi Ackie as Frida, Christian Slater as Vic, Simon Rex as Cody, Adria Arjona as Sarah, Haley Joel Osment as Tom, and Alia Shawkat as Jess. The rest of the cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Geena Davis, and Levon Hawke.
Blink Twice hits theaters on August 23.
