What to expect in M3GAN 2.0?
The first film, directed by Gerard Johnstone, follows roboticist Gemma, who enlisted her lifelike doll M3GAN — an artificial intelligence she designed herself — to look after her recently orphaned 8-year-old niece Cady. However, M3GAN seems to have misunderstood her responsibilities and starts to become hostile to anyone who poses a threat to Cady.
M3GAN 2.0 will see the return of Allison Williams (Get Out) and Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House) as Gemma and Cady, respectively. Johnstone is returning to direct the sequel, with Akela Cooper (Malignant) again on board to write the script. On the other hand, James Wan will produce the second film alongside Blum and Williams.
In addition to Williams and McGraw, returning cast members include Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole, Jen Van Epps as Tess, and Jenna Davis. Deadline also reported that Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement will star in the sequel, joining previously announced cast member Ivanna Sakhno.
Executive producers for M3GAN 2.0 include Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Ryan Turek, Mark Katchur, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.
Apart from the upcoming second movie, the world of M3GAN will expand with SOULM8TE, a spin-off following a man who “acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.”
