Captain America: Brave New World’s Giancarlo Esposito Says ‘No One Has Guessed’ His Villain

The recently released teaser for Captain America: Brave New World is garnering widespread attention across the internet. Aside from introducing Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross and reinventing Anthony Mackie’s look as the Captain, the teaser also gave viewers a brief look at Giancarlo Esposito’s character. From the looks of it, Esposito’s role in the movie seems to be a negative one. Nevertheless, fans have yet to figure out who the Breaking Bad antagonist is portraying in Captain America 4.

Captain America 4 star Giancarlo Esposito says his villain’s still a mystery

So far, every other guess pertaining to the identity of Esposito’s character in Captain America: Brave New World has been inaccurate, according to the actor himself.

In a recent interview, Esposito shed more light on his upcoming role in Captain America: Brave New World. He explained, “The character I’m playing is a badass. That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me.” (via Comic Book Movie)

Nevertheless, he shied away from revealing the character he’ll be embodying in Captain America 4. Instead, Esposito seemed to be deriving pleasure from all the mystery surrounding his role. He stated, “I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.”

The Parish star also addressed speculations of him being cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Professor X. Esposito told ComicBook, “The fans really started the Professor X rumor and I loved it…I started thinking about Professor X, because I feel like that could be a character that I would really excel at.”

Before becoming a Captain America villain, Esposito was also in talks to play Magneto and DC’s Mr. Freeze, he revealed.

The 66-year-old actor is particularly known for playing morally ambiguous characters that lean towards the negative end of the spectrum. This led several fans to theorize that he could be enacting the gun-slinging G.W. Bridge in Captain America: Brave New World. However, the exact details of his part have yet to be disclosed by Marvel Studios.

Captain America 4 is scheduled to hit theatres on February 14, 2025.
