The Minions are continuing their adventures on the big screen, with Universal Pictures setting the Minions 3 release date, announcing when the third entry in the Despicable Me spin-off franchise will release.
When is the Minions 3 release date?
The Minions 3 release date has been set for June 30, 2027, a few years from now but once again slotting into the Independence Day weekend. The sequel to 2022’s Minions: Rise of Gru will be written by Brian Lynch (Minions) and directed by Pierre Coffin, who also directed the first three Despicable Me movies as well as the original Minions film.
Similar to past projects, Minions 3 will once again be produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, as well as Bill Ryan. The movie will look to continue the incredibly strong box office run that the Despicable Me franchise has had. As a whole, the Despicable Me franchise — including all four films and both Minions movies — has grossed more than $4.6 billion at the box office.
The most recent entry in the Despicable Me franchise, Despicable Me 4, released on July 3 this past month, and was once again a big success for Illumination. So far, the fourth movie grossed $258 million at the worldwide box office.
