Jennifer Lawrence to Star in A24 Movie Why Don’t You Love Me?

Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in Why Don’t You Love Me?, an adaptation of the Paul B. Rainey graphic novel from A24.

The hit movie studio recently acquired the rights to the project, which was originally released in 2023. The film is billed as a sci-fi comedy and follows a married couple struggling with their marriage and professional lives “until they realize that their reality is not what it seems and there may be alternatives,” according to the logline for the film.

What is the plot in Why Don’t You Love Me?

While no official casting information has been made available as of yet (via THR), Lawrence will likely star as Claire, one half of the unhappy married couple. The project will be directed by Robert Funke (On Becoming a God in Central Florida), and will be produced by Lawrence, Justine Ciarrocchi, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Emily Hildner.

“Why Don’t You Love Me? is a pitch-black comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression, and mourning lost opportunities,” reads the novel’s synopsis. “Paul B. Rainey has created a hilariously terrifying alternate reality where confusion and pain might lead people to make bad choices but also eventually freedom… maybe.”

For Lawrence, this will mark her second planned project in conjunction alongside A24. Previously, it was reported that Lawrence would team up with A24 and Apple for a murder mystery movie based on the Real Housewives reality franchise. Lawrence’s most recent project was the 2023 sex comedy movie No Hard Feelings, as well as 2021’s apocalyptic satire movie Don’t Look Up.
