Sam Raimi Directing New Horror Movie Send Help for 20th Century Studios

Sam Raimi is returning to the world of horror.

The iconic filmmaker behind 1981’s The Evil Dead is directing a new horror thriller movie titled Send Help for 20th Century Studios.

Per Deadline, Raimi has closed a deal to direct and produce the film, though it has not yet been “officially greenlighted by the studio.”

“The film is described as a two-hander horror thriller set on an island, falling somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway,” Deadline’s description reads.

The script for Send Help was written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Zainab Azizi is also producing the film for Raimi Productions alongside Raimi.

The movie is expected to get a theatrical release, though a date has not yet been set. No casting information is available at this time.

Raimi directed the first three films in the Evil Dead franchise, which includes 1987’s Evil Dead II and 1992’s Army of Darkness in addition to The Evil Dead. He directed the pilot episode of Ash vs Evil Dead and produced the Starz series.

He’s additionally known for making 1995’s The Quick and the Dead, 1999’s For Love of the Game, 2009’s Drag Me to Hell, and 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful. As a producer, Raimi has been involved with horror movies such as 2004’s The Grudge, 2007’s 30 Days of Night, 2013’s Evil Dead, 2016’s Don’t Breathe, 2019’s Crawl, and more.

Raimi also has handled several superhero properties, including 1990’s Darkman and his Spider-Man trilogy, which encompasses 2002’s Spider-Man, 2004’s Spider-Man 2, and 2007’s Spider-Man 3. His latest film was Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was released in 2022.
