Kevin Bacon has been a recognizable celebrity ever since his breakthrough role in Footloose. But, being an A-list celebrity can make it hard to walk down the streets without admiring fans stopping you. Kevin Bacon put his acting skills to the test in the real world by disguising himself as a real person and discovered, “This sucks.”
A preview clip of Kevin Bacon’s role in MaXXXine shows him donning big glasses and a mustache. Even though Bacon is dressed in character for the A24 film, you can still recognize the iconic ’80s star. As the talented actor was curious about what it would be like to be a regular person for one day, Bacon said in a Zoom meeting with Vanity Fair how he pulled all the stops to accomplish that.
“Putting my hat and glasses on is only going to work to a certain extent,” said the Apollo 13 actor. “I went to a special effects makeup artist, had consultations, and asked him to make me a prosthetic disguise.”
The Golden Globe winner’s normal-person disguise had him wearing fake teeth, a prosthetic nose, and glasses. What better place to blend in than the tourist-flocking shopping mall, The Grove? Kevin Bacon couldn’t believe his clever disguise worked, but there was something unsettling about the experiment.
“People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice. Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to, I don’t know, buy a fucking coffee or whatever. I was like, This sucks. I want to go back to being famous.”
As Kevin Bacon got his start at 19 in Animal House, it’s natural he forgot what it was like to be normal. But with the Hollywood star’s upcoming film and TV projects, his celebrity days are far from over.
