Bloody Mary: Origins Announced by Final Destination Creator Jeffrey Reddick

Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick is teaming up with producer Todd Slater on a new horror movie, Bloody Mary: Origins.

The spin on the urban legend is based on a New York Times bestseller, Mary: The Summoning. Deadline had the exclusive on this story.

What is Bloody Mary: Origins about?

The book’s story is about a group of teenage girls who discover an ancient spell that conjures the real Bloody Mary. When the terrifying entity pulls one of the girls through the mirror, she becomes trapped in the past. There, she ends up living out the real Mary Worth’s last days. With time running out, the others must discover a way to save their friend in the past while vanquishing a terrorizing Bloody Mary in the present.

Emmy award winner Lane Shefter Bishop (The Venice Murders) has been hired as the director. She will also produce through her Vast Entertainment banner. Todd Slater will produce via Convoke Media alongside DreamPunk Entertainment’s Ryan Martin and Angela Ziegler.

Reddick had written the script with the late John Stancari. The film is set to be dedicated to his memory.

Todd Slater praised Reddick’s script in a statement. He said, ”The script brings Reddick’s signature blend of suspense, humor, and horror to a completely new take on the urban legend my friends and I used to play as kids. Much like Final Destination created a theatrical franchise that generations have enjoyed, our goal is for Bloody Mary to generate ongoing films with the same impressive longevity.”

Reddick has overseen his Final Destination franchise for nearly 25 years. For the 25th anniversary next year, a new entry titled Final Destination: Bloodlines is in the works at New Line.
