Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to an adaptation of the BOOM! Studios graphic novel A Vicious Circle, with Ryan Coogler attached to the project as a producer.
According to a report from THR, Mattson Tomlin — who created the original graphic novel and is also the showrunner of Terminator Zero — will write the screenplay for the series, adapting his own work.
What do we know about A Vicious Circle?
Coogler will produce the project via his Proximity Media banner, with Boom!’s president of development Stephen Christy also attached as a producer. The adaptation is being described as “John Wick meets Looper,” and will be a “two-hander action thriller.”
A Vicious Circle follows the story of Shawn Thacker, a trained assassin from the future that “seeks revenge on the only other man with his affliction—each life they take forces them both to involuntarily travel between vastly different past and future eras.”
Currently, no casting information or director has been tapped for the project.
“Shawn Thacker is a trained assassin from the future who seeks revenge on the only other man with his affliction—each life they take forces them both to involuntarily travel between vastly different past and future eras,” reads the comic’s official synopsis. “Spanning from 22nd century Tokyo to 1950s New Orleans to the Cretaceous Era and beyond, the two mortal rivals are locked in a battle of wills that spans millions of years, all to alter the course of history.”
