Armand: Cannes-Winning Thriller Set for US Release Date via IFC Films

IFC Films has announced that it has acquired the North American rights to Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel’s award-winning thriller Armand.

The Norwegian thriller picked up the Camera d’Or at Cannes this year. It was the first Norwegian film to do so. Additionally, it was awarded the sound award Prix de la meilleure création sonere for sound designer Mats Lid Støten and composer Ella van der Woude.

What is Armand about?

When defamed actress Elisabeth (Renate Reinsve) is abruptly called into a parent-teacher meeting after hours, she is presented with scathing allegations that trigger a tangled web of accusations between parents and faculty. As Elisabeth struggles to uncover the truth amid the empty school rooms and dark corridors, a chaotic fight for redemption arises where desire, madness, and obsession prevail.

Armand is the directorial debut of Ullmann Tøndel, while its star, Renate Reinsve, was in the celebrated movie The Worst Person in the World. She received an Oscar nomination for her performance in that film. Reinsve is set to star in Zach Cregger’s Weapons alongside Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Benedict Wong.

“I am so excited to bring Armand out to the North American audience, and hope that the film can create conversations and feelings for everyone watching it. I am very happy to have IFC Films as a partner in this, and look forward to begin our journey together with this film,” said Director Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel.

“Halfdan’s debut feature showcases the type of innovative and invigorating directing that is synonymous with IFC Films and our ongoing support of burgeoning auteurs. With a phenomenal performance from Renate at its core, we can’t wait to introduce Armand to audiences stateside,” said Head of AMC Networks’ Film Group Scott Shooman.
