Superman Set Photos Reveal Villains Rick Flag Sr, Ultraman & Engineer in Costumes

With James Gunn and co. rolling cameras on Superman, new set photos and videos are swiftly finding their way to the internet. The first batch revealed David Corenswet in costume alongside Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific. Another batch showcased Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane stepping into the aftermath of a supposed battle with Wendell Pierce’s Perry White and Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen. Now, a new collection shows Rick Flag Sr. and other villains taking Superman into custody.

Superman gets arrested in new set photos

Memories of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel being arrested in Zack Snyder’s take will resonate with the latest Superman (2025) set photos as David Corenswet’s version also faces a similar fate. A new video posted by The Direct shows Superman getting apprehended by a huge person dressed in all black alongside other potential antagonists and military officers.

The scene was shot in front of the Cleveland City Hall on Tuesday, June 25. It is renamed as Metropolis City Hall for the film. While Cavill’s Superman surrendered himself, the reason behind Superman’s arrest in DCU isn’t known yet.

Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. makes live-action debut with other villains in Superman

Other images from the production revealed a clear look at Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. He was said to appear only in 2024’s animated Creature Commandos series and Peacemaker Season 2. But, the following Superman set photos confirm his live-action debut ahead of the Peacemaker show.

Whether Rick Flag Sr. acts as an antagonist in Superman is yet to be revealed. But, he is spotted alongside María Gabriela De Faría’s The Engineer and the mystery figure in black with a ‘U’ logo on his chest, Ultraman. Both of them are villains in the comics. Together, all three of them could be working for the government as Task Force X or another team.

Furthermore, Ultraman is a multiversal DC character. But, as per familiar scooper Daniel RPK, he is rumored to be a villainous clone created by Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman. However, considering Daniel Richtman’s inconsistent track record, his scoop could be taken with a grain of salt for now.

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
