Save the Green Planet Gets New Title, Release Date Set for Yorgos Lanthimos & Emma Stone Movie

Yorgos Lanthimos’ remake of Save the Green Planet! has been given an official title and release date.

Focus Features has announced that Lanthimos’ upcoming remake of 2003’s Save the Green Planet! will officially be titled Bugonia. The film will star Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

When is Yorgos Lanthimos’ Save the Green Planet! remake coming out?

Bugonia has been given a United States release date of November 7, 2025, by Focus Features. Universal Pictures, meanwhile, will be distributing the film internationally (excluding Korea).

“Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth,” the official logline reads.

Bugonia is written by Will Tracy. Lathimos produces the movie alongside Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen of Square Beg, Stone of Fruit Tree, and Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko of CJ ENM.

Stone has worked with Lanthimos a number of times before. She played a sizable role in 2018’s The Favourite, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She then won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Lanthimos’ Poor Things, which was released in 2023.

Lanthimos’ latest film, Kinds of Kindness, stars both Stone and Plemons. The movie was given a limited theatrical release in the United States on June 21 and is now expanding nationwide on June 28.

Save the Green Planet! was written and directed by Jang Joon-hwan. It starred Shin Ha-kyun, Baek Yoon-sik, Hwang Jeong-min, and Lee Jae-yong.

“Lee Byeong-gu (Shin Ha-kyun) is convinced that there are aliens from Andromeda among us, plotting to destroy Earth,” the synopsis for the 2003 movie reads. “He believes that Kang Man-shik (Baek Yun-shik), the head of a chemical production company, is their leader, and he kidnaps him. Holing up in his secret lair, Byeong-gu interrogates and tortures the supposed alien, hoping that he will confess to his crimes against humanity and call off the planned destruction of the planet before it is too late.”
