Here Photos Preview De-Aged Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in New Robert Zemeckis Movie

The first photos from Here, a new film from Robert Zemeckis, preview a de-aged Tom Hanks and Robin Wright.

Here is a new drama movie directed by Zemeckis that takes place entirely in one living room. The camera never moves during the movie; rather, “everything around” the perspective does.

What did Robert Zemeckis say about the Here photos?

Zemeckis said of the movie, “It’s actually never been done before. There are similar scenes in very early silent movies, before the language of montage was invented. But other than that, yeah, it was a risky venture.”

Hanks plays a character named Richard in Here. While he’s 67 years old in some parts of the movie, other scenes alter Hanks’ appearance to make him look younger through makeup and digital de-aging. Wright, meanwhile, plays a character named Margaret, who marries Richard and starts a family with him.

Zemeckis said of the digital de-aging technology, “I’ve always been, for some reason, labeled as this visual effects guy. But those were always there to serve as the character arc. There’s always been a restlessness in trying. I’ve always thought that our job as filmmakers is to show the audience things that they don’t see in real life.”

He also praised Hanks and Wright’s performances, saying, “Both Tom and Robin understood instantly that, ‘Okay, we have to go back and channel what we were like 50 years ago or 40 years ago, and we have to bring that energy, that kind of posture, and even raise our voices higher. That kind of thing.”

Here, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Richard McGuire, also stars Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, and Leslie Zemeckis. The screenplay was written by Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth.

Hanks and Zemeckis have previously worked together on 1994’s Forrest Gump, 2004’s The Polar Express, and 2022’s Disney’s Pinocchio.

Here releases in United States theaters on November 15, 2024, from Sony Pictures’ TriStar Pictures.
