New Karate Kid Movie Wraps Production, Ralph Macchio Celebrates With Photo

Franchise star Ralph Macchio confirmed on his social media account that production on Sony Pictures‘ new Karate Kid movie has officially been completed. It is currently scheduled for a May 30, 2025 theatrical release date.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Karate Kid movie, he also shared a brand new photo, providing fans with a new look at his return as iconic Daniel LaRusso. Besides Sony’s Karate Kid movie, Macchio will also be appearing in the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, which had also recently wrapped its production. The hit Netflix series will be returning this coming July 18, with the first five episodes of the final season.

Who’s involved in the new Karate Kid movie?

Sony’s Karate Kid movie is directed by Jonathan Entwistle from a screenplay written by Rob Lieber. It is produced by Karen Rosenfelt. Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps at this time, though it’s known that it will largely be set on the East Coast and focus on a teenager from China.

In addition to Macchio, the project will also feature the return of Jackie Chan, who will be reprising his role as Mr. Han from the 2010 reboot. They will be joined by franchise newcomers Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Sadie Stanley, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, and Jennifer-Lyn Christie.
