The Inside Out 2 box office continues to reach new heights moving into its second week. Going past another weekend, the film continued its success to become the biggest movie of 2024. It dethroned Dune 2 to take the top spot in domestic and global markets.
Inside Out 2 claims No. 1 spot worldwide, inches closer to $1 Billion
It took a little longer than expected, but Hollywood finally has a new movie as the highest-grosser. Inside Out 2’s box office beat all expectations in its opening weekend, making almost $155 million domestically. It had a record-breaking Juneteenth and continued its success through the second weekend.
As per Deadline, it only dropped by 35% and brought in $100 million, becoming the first-ever animated movie to do so. It is also just the seventh film to go past $100 million in its second weekend after Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149 million), Avengers: Endgame ($147 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($114 million), Black Panther ($111.6M), Jurassic World ($106 million), and The Avengers ($103 million).
Inside Out 2’s current domestic total is $355 million, taking it ahead of all 2024 movies in North America. As far as the worldwide numbers are concerned, it has exceeded Dune: Part Two’s $711 million total and currently sits on the throne with $724 million.
Now, it is set to go past $1 billion in the coming week or two. Furthermore, it is expected to beat the first Inside Out ($858 million) after the next weekend, despite competing with A Quiet Place: Day One.
July will also offer some major competition with two other billion-dollar prospects, including Despicable Me 4 and Deadpool & Wolverine. However, Inside Out 2 is still expected to hold its own across the next month.
Whether it stays at the top of the table in 2024 remains to be seen. But, besides the two aforementioned summer prospects, Disney’s own Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King also stand a chance to go past it.
Inside Out 2 is still playing in the theaters, and here’s when it might leave.
