Deadpool & Wolverine Director Reveals What Marvel Banned in R-rated Sequel

With an R-rating, Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to go all out with its violence and foul language. But there was a limit to what Disney and Marvel could allow in its adult-oriented project, as director Shawn Levy has revealed in conversations about what he couldn’t do in the film.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy confirms conversations about avoiding drug use

Deadpool & Wolverine will be the MCU’s first R-rated movie. While this aspect of the film follows suit with its predecessors, there was one element of the previous films that Marvel disapproved of. Both Deadpool and Deadpool 2 contained heavy references to drug use, and as per Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine will deviate from the first two films in this respect.

Speaking with Total Film (via GamesRadar), Levy revealed that even though “overt drug use” was prohibited, it became one funny joke in the film. He said:

“I’m so wary of what I can say but certainly there were early conversations about overt drug use. And we thought that was an interesting conversation. Let’s actually write a dialogue scene about having had it.”

This line of dialogue described by Levy involves Blind Al and Wade’s exchange about drugs, which also made its way into the film’s official trailer.

Deadpool & Wolverine is officially complete

With Deadpool & Wolverine being almost a month away from its theatrical release, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that the post-production on the film is done.

He took to Instagram and wrote:

“And that’s all she wrote for post-production. Feels like a million years of work went by in a blink. Sitting next to this guy made it all so sweet… Hard to walk away.”

The film will be released on July 26 and stars Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Matthew Macfayden as Paradox, Rob McElhenney as a TVA agent, and several other returning actors from Deadpool 2 besides Hugh Jackman and Reynolds in the title roles.
