The Empty Cell: All You Need is Death Filmmaker Developing Prison Curse Horror Movie

All You Need is Death filmmaker Paul Duane has lined up his next project in The Empty Cell. It’s a near-future curse horror movie set in a prison.

In an exclusive for Deadline, it was revealed that the director of the Irish folk horror movie would team up with 1185 Films for his next project.

The Empty Cell story details and director history

The Empty Cell is set in a prison in near-future Ireland. An unexpected occupant – a transgender woman – is sent to the prison, and when she dies in solitary confinement, others start to succumb to a curse.

1185 Films creator Nick Franco has a long history with Duan and is happy to work together.

“Paul Duane and I have been working together for 20 years, and his career has continued on an upward trajectory with the current release of All You Need Is Death. I’m incredibly excited to build on this and welcome such an impressive group of new directors to the fold. Our new found relationship with XYZ Films and Stephen James Thompson overseeing our slate means our proposition is incredibly valuable.”

All You Need is Death is about a young couple who collect rare folk ballads. One day, they discover the dark side of love when they surreptitiously record and translate an ancient, taboo folk song. The film was released in April of this year.
