Lord of Rings vet Andy Serkis has offered a hopeful update regarding Peter Jackson‘s long-in-development sequel The Adventures of Tintin 2.

How long has Peter Jackson been developing The Adventures of Tintin 2?

Jackson has been developing The Adventures of Tintin 2 for more than a decade now, In October 2011, he announced that he intended to direct the sequel to 2011’s epic action-adventure animated movie, which was originally helmed by Steven Spielberg. The New Zealand filmmaker and Spielberg initially planned to release the sequel in 2015, with the latter previously confirming that the new adaptation will be based on two Tintin books. In 2018, Jackson admitted that he’s still committed in making the sequel, even though the project still has no script yet after screenwriter Anthony Horowitz’s exit.

After six years of no update, awaiting fans finally received an update about the current status of The Adventures of Tintin 2. During a recent encounter with French entertainment journalist Alexandre Loos at the Annecy Film Festival (via X), Serkis, who voiced the dual role of Captain Archibald Haddock and Sir Francis Haddock in the first installment, has dismissed speculations that The Adventures of Tintin 2 had been scrapped by confirming tha Jackson “is [still] definitely working on it.”

Based on Hergé’s comic book series of the same name, the 2011 movie was directed by Spielberg from a screenplay co-written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. It starred Jamie Bell, Serkis, Daniel Craig, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Daniel Mays, Mackenzie Crook, Gad Elmaleh, Tony Curran, Cary Elwes and more. The story centered around the hunt for the Unicorn ship’s long-lost treasure. It received many awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, making it the first motion-captured animated film to win the award.
