Richard Linklater Blue Moon Movie Casts Ethan Hawke, Andrew Scott, & More

Richard Linklater’s next movie, Blue Moon, has cast Ethan Hawke and Andrew Scott.

Hawke and Scott have officially joined the cast of Linklater’s Blue Moon. They’ll be joined by Margaret Qualley (Drive-Away Dolls, Kinds of Kindness) and Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle).

Hawke and Linklater have collaborated on a number of projects in the past, including 1995’s Before Sunrise, 1998’s The Newton Boys, 2001’s Waking Life, 2001’s Tape, 2004’s Before Sunset, 2006’s Fast Food Nation, 2013’s Before Midnight, and 2014’s Boyhood.

The Sony Pictures Classics film is expected to begin filming this July in Dublin, Ireland.

What will Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon be about?

“Blue Moon profiles the final days of Lorenz Hart, part of the hit songwriting team Rodgers & Hart,” Deadline’s description reads. “The film is set primarily in Sardi’s Restaurant on March 31, 1943, the opening night of Oklahoma!, which marked Rodgers’s first collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II as Hart’s replacement.”

The script for Blue Moon was written by Robert Kaplow. Linklater is producing the film with Mike Blizzard and John Sloss. Macdara Kelleher, Donna Eperon, John Keville, David Kingland, Lisa Crnic, Aaron Wiederspahn, and Steven Farneth will serve as executive producers.

“Robert, Ethan, and I have been developing this story for over a decade and are excited and grateful that the time has come to bring this to life,” Linklater said.

Sony Pictures Classics added, “Almost a year ago, Rick, Ethan, and John reached out to us with Robert Kaplow’s amazing script BLUE MOON. Helping them over the following months to bring it together has been incredibly exciting and now, on the verge of production, with this fantastic cast and crew in place and Rick at the helm, we are thrilled to finally announce it and bring the film to audiences everywhere in the world.”
