Ian McKellen Health Update After Actor Fell off Stage During Performance

A new Ian McKellen health update has surfaced following reports that the legendary actor fell off of the stage during a performance of Player Kings this week.

What is the Ian McKellen health update?

According to a new report from Deadline, McKellen suffered a fractured wrist from the fall at London’s Noel Coward Theatre. This comes following a statement from the theatre itself yesterday, which reported that McKellen would make a “speedy and full recovery” and that the actor was in good spirits.

McKellen was taken to the hospital on Monday following his fall, where he was treated for the fractured wrist and a handful of other undisclosed injuries. As for the Player Kings play itself, the Noel Coward Theatre announced that performances would begin again on Thursday, June 19, 2024, albeit without the actor.

“The performance on Wednesday 19 June will be cancelled following Ian McKellen’s fall during the performance of Player Kings on Monday (17 June). Bookers for the affected performance will be contacted by their point of purchase directly,” said the theatre in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming audiences back to the Noel Coward Theatre on Thursday 19 June. We are delighted that Ian is recovering well, and look forward to him returning to the production as soon as he is ready. We will keep audiences updated regarding remaining performances this week.”

McKellen’s career in acting spans over 60 years, with the legendary actor having multiple iconic roles, including his performance as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, Magneto in the X-Men films, and King Richard in 1995’s Richard III. In the world of theater, McKellen also has a multitude of credits — notably being in the ongoing Player Kings.
