Deadpool & Wolverine Eying Record-Breaking $200+ Million Opening Box Office Weekend

Deadpool & Wolverine is currently eying an opening box office weekend of over $200 million.

Per Deadline, Deadpool & Wolverine is currently projected to make between $200-$237 million at the box office during its opening weekend.

The highest-grossing R-rated movie is currently 2019’s Joker, which made $96.2 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. It went on to make approximately $1.079 billion by the time it had finished its theatrical run.

The first Deadpool movie, meanwhile, made $132.4 million during its opening weekend, with its grand haul coming in at $782.8 million. Deadpool 2 debuted at $125.5 million, with its global box office total being $785.8 million.

“Even if Deadpool & Wolverine comes in at $150M (keep in mind, it’s not clear if the younger Disney Marvel Studios parents/fans realize this is R-rated), it will still rep the biggest opening for both [Ryan] Reynolds (beating Deadpool) and [Hugh] Jackman (besting X-Men: The Last Stand‘s $103M),” Deadline’s article notes. “At that level, it will also be the highest opening of the summer, besting even this weekend’s anticipated $100M start for Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2.”

Who stars in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine?

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine stars Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Jackman as Wolverine, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio.

The MCU film is directed by Shawn Levy, who previously made 2006’s Night at the Museum, 2011’s Real Steel, 2021’s Free Guy, and 2022’s The Adam Project, among other titles. Levy is also now reportedly in talks to potentially helm Marvel’s next Avengers movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine releases in United States theaters on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
