Director Xavier Gens has outlined what he’d do for an Under Paris sequel, with an intent to commit to the promise of ”Paris Under”.
Gens’ shark movie has been a popular addition to the Netflix catalog. Since its debut last week, it’s been viewed over 40 million times. Furthermore, its wild finale teases the potential for a mouthwatering sequel.
Under Paris sequel plans are ambitious
The plot of Under Paris sees an aggressive mutated shark end up in the Seine River in Paris. Unfortunately, this happens just as the city is preparing for a major triathlon. Obviously, much carnage ensues, and a catastrophic chain of events is triggered in trying to destroy the behemoth shark.
In the literally explosive finale, errant gunfire sets off wartime missiles that litter the riverbed, causing massive flooding of the city.
Xavier Gens explained to Variety that an Under Paris sequel is not currently official. But if it does get greenlit, he knows what it will do.
”Right now, as of today, we’re not on it but there’s a chance that we’ll be discussing it soon. If there is a sequel, it will take place in a Paris that is entirely submerged under water.”
The movie has also been the subject of a lawsuit. A writer has claimed his screenplay about a giant catfish in the Seine has been repurposed without permission by the creators of the Netflix movie.
Under Paris is on Netflix now.
