Jared Leto has been tapped to play alleged jewel thief Lawrence Gray in a new movie from h.wood Media.
Per Deadline, Leto has signed on to star in an untitled movie about Gray, a retired professor who allegedly stole over $1 million worth of jewels and other valuables from acquaintances he met at elite social conventions.
Gray also allegedly stole from his longtime lover, Jacqueline Quillen. He was accused of stealing by Quillen’s son, Parker, in 2020.
“Quillen passed away later that year, and the lawsuit was settled confidentially, with Gray making a payment to her estate,” Deadline’s article notes. “Maintaining his innocence, Gray claims that he was persecuted by Quillen’s family due to their disapproval of his relationship with her.
What else do we know about Jared Leto’s Lawrence Gray movie?
The film is based on a 2022 article published in Air Mail titled “The Talented Dr. Gray” by Steve Kroft and Howard L. Rosenberg. Read the article by clicking here.
Andy Bellin wrote the script for the movie. Bellin previously penned 2010’s Trust and 2013’s Lovelace.
“The moment I read the article, I knew this would make an incredible movie,” Bellin said. “The real hook here is the psychology of Dr. Gray and the fantastic twists that come along with it. This story explores the perceived perfect lives of privilege and glamour, which is actually a world of cunning, subterfuge and deception. We’re so lucky that Jared has the same drive for such complex characters; and that h.wood Media sees what we see in this project.”
Jared Leto serves as a producer on the film alongside Emma Ludbrook. There is no word on who is directing the project as of yet.
Leto is known for starring in movies such as 1999’s Fight Club, 2000’s American Psycho, 2000’s Requiem for a Dream, 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, 2016’s Suicide Squad, 2017’s Blade Runner 2049, 2021’s House of Gucci, 2022’s Morbius, and 2023’s Haunted Mansion. He’ll next be seen in Tron: Ares, which releases in October 2025.
