Isn’t It Romantic 2: ‘Scary’ Sequel in the Works for Rebel Wilson Rom-Com Movie

New Line Cinema is making a sequel to 2019’s Isn’t It Romantic, titled Isn’t It Scary.

Per Deadline, April Prosser has been tapped to write the screenplay for Isn’t It Scary, which serves as a sequel to the Rebel Wilson-starring rom-com Isn’t It Romantic.

Todd Garner, Gina Mathews, and Grant Scharbo are expected to produce the movie; although, Deadline’s article notes that “these deals haven’t yet closed, as it’s early days here.”

No other talent is attached at this time, and it’s unclear whether or not Wilson will reprise her role.

Plot details for Isn’t It Scary remain under wraps at this time, though it’s expected to take a meta approach to the horror genre.

What was Isn’t It Romantic about?

“Natalie is a New York architect who works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to deliver coffee and bagels than design the city’s next skyscraper,” the synopsis for the movie reads. Things go from bad to weird when she gets knocked unconscious during a subway mugging and magically wakes up to find herself in an alternate universe. Always cynical about love, Natalie’s worst nightmare soon comes true when she suddenly discovers that she’s playing the leading lady in a real-life romantic comedy.”

Todd Strauss-Schulson (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, The Final Girls) directed Isn’t It Romantic, which made approximately $48.8 million at the global box office off a $31 million budget. The script was written by Eric Cardillo, Dana Fox, and Katie Silberman.

Along with Wilson, Isn’t It Romantic starred Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Betty Gilpin, Brandon Scott Jones, Jennifer Saunders, Big Jay Oakerson, and Tom Ellis.

New Line Cinema has not yet set an official release date for Isn’t It Scary. Isn’t It Romantic, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Hulu.
