While many seem to be enjoying George Miller’s Furiosa, Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, has been especially excited. He’s even finding a familiar connection between an actor in the film and a character in his most famous game series.
Kojima is fast friends with Furiosa director George Miller, with Miller lending his likeness to a character in Kojima’s upcoming Death Stranding 2. When it comes to Furiosa, Hideo Kojima has made no secret of his feelings about it giddily declaring his love for it on social media.
In a recent post, Kojima expressed love for a couple of the newly introduced characters after a rewatch of the film. He said Charlee Fraser and Tom Burke were ”sure to be a breakout hit.” after their performances as Furiosa’s mother and mentor, respectively.
But Burke’s Praetorian Jack’s look caught his eye the most. He believes the character bears a striking resemblance to Metal Gear Solid character(s) Snake, saying, ”I could only see him as Snake.”
Furiosa actor backs up Hideo Kojima Metal Gear comparison
Interestingly, Kojima met Burke at a party and spoke about the similarities, which Burke backed up.
When I met Tom at a party, I asked him about it,” Kojima wrote. ”And he told me that he was told that he looked like Snake by the crew on the first day of shooting.
Snake isn’t just one character in the Metal Gear Solid series; they are all, in one way or another, some cloned or disguised version of Metal Gear Solid 3 protagonist Naked Snake (also known as John or Jack), so they all share a similarity. It’s hard to disagree that Burke’s Praetorian Jack looks a lot like a lost Les Enfant Terribles.
Anya Taylor-Joy stars as Furiosa, the role originally played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a prequel set 15-20 years before the events in Fury Road.
As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, John Howard, Angus Sampson, Charlee Fraser, Nathan Jones, and Lachy Hulme also star in the film, which is in theaters now.
