My Bloody Valentine

New My Bloody Valentine Movie Reportedly in the Works From Blumhouse

A new My Bloody Valentine movie is reportedly in the works from Blumhouse.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Blumhouse is now developing a new My Bloody Valentine movie. No further details are available at this time, and it’s unclear whether it will serve as a sequel to the older film or a remake.

What was the original My Bloody Valentine about?

Directed by George Mihalka, the original My Bloody Valentine movie was released in 1981. It starred Paul Kelman, Lori Hallier, Neil Affleck, Cynthia Dale, Don Francks, and Keith Knight. While it wasn’t a big box office hit at the time, My Bloody Valentine developed a cult following over the years.

“On Valentine’s Day, someone always loses their heart,” the description of the 1981 movie reads. “Twenty years ago, this small town lost more than that. When supervisors abandoned their posts to attend the town’s annual holiday dance, a tragedy claimed the lives of five miners. The sole survivor, Harry Warden, was institutionalized, but returned for a vengeful massacre on the disaster’s first anniversary. Nineteen years later, the town is gearing up for another Valentine’s Day party. Teen sweethearts T.J. and Sarah, along with their friend Axel, are among the excited partygoers. But when a box of candy containing an eerie warning and blood-soaked heart arrive, the townsfolk realize that romance is as good as dead. And so are they…”

Patrick Lussier made a remake, My Bloody Valentine 3D, in 2009. Starring Jensen Ackles, Chris Carnel, Jaime King, and Kerr Smith, the film, which was distributed by Lionsgate, was a huge success, bringing in $100.7 million at the global box office off an estimated $14 million budget.

The 1981 version of My Bloody Valentine is currently streaming on MGM+ on The Roku Channel, while My Bloody Valentine 3D is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

A release date for the new My Bloody Valentine movie has not yet been set.
