The Duel release date window for the forthcoming comedy movie starring Dylan Sprouse and Callan McAuliffe has been revealed.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate in collaboration with Grindstone Entertainment have nabbed the North American theatrical distribution rights to The Duel. The studio is currently planning to release the film this coming summer around the end of July. In addition to leading the cast, Sprouse has also signed on to serve as an executive producer, which marks the first time that the former Disney Channel star had taken a behind-the-scenes role on a project.
“This movie is crazy fun, unpredictable and hilarious. Moviegoers will love spending time with these characters in this extremely funny story.” Grindstone Entertainment CEO Barry Booker said in a statement.
What is The Duel about?
“The film is about a modern friend group falling apart and the craziest way to deal with it: by bringing back dueling. It begins with Woody (McAuliffe) who finds out that his best friend Colin (Sprouse) has been sleeping with his girlfriend, which leads him to challenge Colin to an old-school duel,” reads the synopsis. “Now ensnared in this bizarre situation, their friend group becomes entangled with an eccentric antique shop owner obsessed with the past, a cocaine dealer, and a pig, taking them across the border to a mysterious and stunning estate.”
The Duel is written and directed by Justin Matthews and Luke Spencer Roberts. The film will also star Hart Denton (Riverdale), Maria Gabriela de Faria (upcoming Superman), Rachel Matthews (Frozen II), Christian McGaffney (Simón), Patrick Wamburton (The Emperor’s New Groove), Denny Love (Looking For Alaska), and Ronald Guttman (The Hunt for Red October). It is produced by Zachary Spicer, Gordon Strain, Joe Matthews, and Justin Matthews.
